Herpes Outbreak In 6 Months?

I was infected with genital herpes about 5 months ago by my girlfriend (yes, I knew she had it). I had my initial outbreak soon after i was infected. Can herpes outbreaks last for 6 months with no blisters?? Just a rash, penis tip pain and swollen painful lymph nodes for 6 months. Have tested negative for hsv-2 the hsv-1 was postitive but Ive had coldsores ever since I was a kid. And most of us get human herpes virus (HHV) 6 and 7 by the time we are aged two years. Viral shedding does occur in association with outbreaks of genital herpes and therefore sexual contact should be avoided during these times. An initial episode can, at times, be so mild as to pass unnoticed and a first herpes recurrence may take place some months or even years after the first herpes infection.
